Posted by Luke Coffey on

Most people want to take care of themselves, but many still don't. Why? There can be many reasons, but often it is the result of bad habits and/or their environment. One of the best ways to set yourself up for success is to build new healthy habits. That is the foundation of Mycosia and our products. Our products were all created with building healthy habits in mind. Stress Less is our flagship product, reduces your stress and goes great in your morning coffee.

Meditation

Over the last few decades more and more scientists have started researching its amazing benefits. Mindfulness and meditation practices help us cultivate awareness of ourselves and the external environment. Some of the many benefits are:

  • Improves your focus and attention
  • Increases your ability to handle and response to stress
  • Improves your mental health
  • Has a positive impact on your relationships

Journal

Journaling is a healthy way to express yourself and manage your mental health. It can be especially beneficial to help you understand yourself to track your day to day emotions and help with identifying negative thoughts and behaviours. Journaling is straightforward and works especially well. Here are some simple tips on how to journal effectively:

  • Try to journal every day.
  • You only need to journal for a few minutes each day to make it help.
  • Write whatever your mind wants to share. This journal is about expressing your thoughts, so write whatever comes to you.
  • Look back on your previous journals to gain a deeper understanding of yourself.

Get Outside

Being outside in nature has amazing health benefits. Studies have shown that walking in nature improves your memory, concentration and makes you happier. Another amazing benefit of being outside is to get more vitamin D. In Australia, where I live, many people aren't getting enough vitamin D so being outside is especially important in making sure you get enough vitamin D.

Want to reduce your stress and boost your immune system? Being out in nature will help reduce your stress and heart rate. Studies have shown that people who spend 6 hours in the woods over a two-day period boosted their immune system.

Practice Gratitude

Starting a gratitude practice can help in many different ways. But the main benefits it has is to improve your mental and physical health. It will improve your emotional regulation and boost your mood. By doing this will also helps reduce your stress and increase your resilience to stressful situations.

Be Inspired

Inspiration helps keep you stay motivated and helps you progress towards your goals. By being inspired your ability to persevere and move towards your goals will be easier. Knowing your why is extremely important to being inspired and having that knowledge will make it easier for you to improve your mindset and chase your dreams.

Exercise

We all know exercise is good for you, but some people don't exercise enough. One of the best ways you can make sure you exercise is to enjoy it. Many people think exercise means going to the gym 2 hours a day every day, but that is just one way you can exercise. Making sure you enjoy the exercise is just as important as doing it. Here are some more creative ways you can exercise:

  • Try yoga. It has amazing physical and emotional health benefits.
  • Dancing gets your bloody pumping and is a fun exercise you can do anywhere. You can always take this a step further, invite your friends over and have a dance party. 😉
  • Go for a hike. Not only do you get to be outdoors, you get the added benefit of exercising.
  • Rollerskating is something I see more and more people picking up these days. Maybe buy a pair of skates and give it a try.
  • Kayaking is something I personally try to do often. I enjoy it so much, and it is a great full body exercise.

Eat Healthy

A healthy diet consists of a variety of healthy foods from the major food groups. Making sure you eat plenty of vegetables, legumes, fruits, wholegrains and lean poultry (or a vegan alternative). One tip you can use for what vegetables and fruits to eat is the bigger the range of colours of your vegetables and fruits the better. Here are some more tips to eat healthy.

  • Cut back on occasional unhealthy foods. Every now and then is okay, but minimising this will help.
  • Cook more food at home and minimise your takeout.
  • Avoid foods high in sugar
  • Minimise your alcohol intake
  • Increase the amount of water you drink
  • Plan your weekly meals out. This makes it easier to make sure you're eating healthy meals throughout the week.
  • Stop buying unhealthy foods. If you don't have them in your kitchen, you won't be eating them.

Sleep

Sleep is probably the single most important thing for your health. Without sleep, all the exercise and healthy eating in the world won't help. Here are some reasons why sleep is super important:

  • High quality sleep is linked to a more regulated appetite. Poor sleep affects the hormones that regulate appetite.
  • Good sleep improves your concentration and productivity. Sleep is essential for most brain functions.
  • Sleep improves your physical and athletic performance.
  • Sleep improves your immune health and improves your body's inflammatory response.
  • The quality of your sleep affects your emotions and social interactions. People who get better sleep can regulate their emotions better.

There are plenty of things you can do to improve your health. These are many other ways, but these are some of the most important.
